Thoughts on the AK47
I’ve had a liking for the AK as long as I can remember. It didn’t take long before I started wanting one for myself, and I’m hoping to get one soon. Back when I lived in a bigger city, I used to visit pawn shops regularly. Whenever I traveled, I’d stop at any pawn shop that caught my interest. Buying from a pawn shop feels right to me since you know the gun works. I once knew someone who owned a pawn shop, and most of the guns I had back then were bought from there. Unfortunately, I had one of those “boat accidents,” if you know what I mean. Right now, I’m planning to buy another AK, but there’s only one pawn shop nearby, so I’ll have to wait and see. I checked prices today, and they’ve dropped compared to a few years ago. That gives me some hope, but finding the extra cash isn’t easy. Plus, getting a good deal on a reliable AK-47 is a challenge, but quality comes at a cost.
When it comes to buying guns, I’d say the best option is getting one from a friend. Personally, my friends and I don’t usually sell our guns. We take care of them and hold on to them. But every once in a while, someone might decide to sell, and you’ll likely get a fair deal. It’s better this way since you know the seller is honest. Two of my close friends own AK-47s, but I doubt they’d sell them. Even if they did, I’d probably find cheaper options elsewhere. Still, I get why they’d charge more—it’s not easy to part with a good rifle.
In my state, the gun laws are pretty relaxed, and private sales are allowed. That said, private sales make me a bit uneasy. You don’t know if the gun works, and there’s no background check. You also don’t know much about the seller, which is risky. I haven’t bought a gun privately in a long time. There’s a flea market not far from here with several gun dealers, and I’m planning a trip there once I save up some extra cash. The problem is finding someone you trust enough, and ideally, you’d want to test the gun first to ensure it works. That’s something I’ll have to figure out.
As for online options, there are a few sites, but nothing stands out as a great deal. Gun shows don’t seem much better either. The prices aren’t impressive, and they charge $20 just to get inside, which I find frustrating. It feels like you’re paying for no reason.
